About me

Just an old guy who likes movies and tries to read a book from time to time. I'm a film school drop out so I tend to think I know more then I actually do and tend to watch one star films while somehow avoiding 'the classics'.

Spent most of my life in manual labor or customer service jobs with just enough technical experience to royally mess up my computer from time to time. I do some web design and photo processing but would rather spend my time crocheting or cooking.

Adam Scott?! Okay, maybe the movie needs to go to the top of my queue. :) Have a great weekend as well!

My lists started out as a yearly top ten when they were on Yahoo, then I expanded to a top 12 when I moved them to Netflix, then after Netflix vaporized my lists - I found Listal and expanded them to a top 15 - which works well for me because as I watch more movies, I can easily replace some of the weaker movies on the lists with better ones.
Thanks again for all of the votes :)

Thanks for the vote on my 50 worst movies list and all of the votes on my yearly Top 15 movie lists!
The movies in the 80's were so great, let me know if you would like any of them included in future packages. It is looking like 2011 will be another year in which I will be expanding the list to 20.

Have a nice weekend :)

I see what you mean about judging the 1979 Dracula film correctly given that distinction. Indeed I found much to enjoy in it and found Langella to be very commanding and charming in the titular role. As for Slacker, I won't hold a gun to your head or anything but I do feel like it's worth watching as I said. But if you finally get around to it & disagree with me on that, feel free to let me know. ;)

Good to know your package is on its way! I'll let you know when it arrives. Now to (maybe) clean up the kitchen & get some much needed sleep. Been lacking in that department this week, and yet I've only managed to watch movies one night out of 3. Sigh. Hope you're having a good week!

Thanks very much for the vote on my best of '11 list. :)

Thanks for all the list votes! My Best movies of lists currently run from 1977 through 2010. 2011 is buried until I've caught up more (and I've got a loooong way to go). Then of course I have favorites from each decade list from the 70s backward.

I have every confidence you'll eventually leave your comments on my January list. ;) All right, off to spend time with my woman. Back after she goes to sleep perhaps.

Thanks a ton for the list votes. I'm still trying to find my way around the site and votes are encouraging me onward.
Hope your week is going well.

I gotta say that the review, despite seeming mostly negative, still has me intrigued. Especially the Kubrick bit.
Posted: 1 week ago at Jan 22 8:55
Hmm, well, if it's something you think you'll be mulling over during the next few days, I think I can say I'm still very intrigued to see the movie. Someone getting gutted in a movie leads to an R rating, but a penis leads to an NC-17 rating? I have a hard time understanding that moral compass. I won't continue to hype A Separation, because that'll just probably lead to impossibly high expectations, but I hope you like it.

And you're definitely not boring. :)

Troll Hunter is the film that proved to me that the found footage genre can offer up something decent once or twice a decade. Have you seen that one yet? It's a good bit of fun.

Yeah, the R versus NC-17 rating has always been something of joke. Just watched Bad Education and it didn't quite seem right there either. I like Ebert's campaign for an 'A' rating, 'A' meaning adult, as in this is a film intended for an Adult audience because there's some heavy shit going on, drug use is likely, scenes depicting abuse is quite possible, and there just might be some pubic hair happening or a penis or two. Eroticism could have something to do with it, but it's as likely not, as I'm sure Shame isn't going for eroticism. But unfortunately such a rating would probably carry its own stigma when all we're really asking is for parents to leave their snickering 14 year-olds at home. But oh well.

Okay it's time to get serious if I think I'm gonna get something watched tonight.

Big congrats on getting down the street to see Shame! I've got a another week or two before it opens near me.

And looks as though you liked or at least tolerated Apollo 18 more than anyone else I've heard from. Maybe I'll give it a Redbox rental. Think I'll forgo Shark Night 3D and wait for Pirahna 3DD instead. If it's gonna be shit, I'd rather it be R rated shit.

Wait, WHAT?!!! Shame as in the one directed by Steve McQueen and starring Michael Fassbender?!! I'm dreadfully jealous. It's the only 2011 film that I wanted to see but haven't been able to - the stupid NC-17 rating has limited the number of places it's playing. Well... if you get a chance, let me know what you thought of it.

I'll admit it's been several years since I saw The Rules of Attraction, so it may be time to rewatch it.

Thanks for the votes, two of my favorite movies from last year! And glad to see you watched Kaboooooom. :)

Was looking at your 2010 Horror list and am curious...is Rubber in the "At your own risk" just because it's not for everyone? I wondered because it's rated higher than all your top picks haha.

OK, off to attempt to watch Slacker before sleep wins out.
